SDSU Basketball: Tim Shelton Receives JJC Award.

Tim Shelton was a guest speaker at the 2012 San Diego Juvenile Justice Commission Awards Banquet. The banquet awarded members of the San Diego Law Enforcement community and many others. Guests at the banquet included San Diego Sheriffs, San Diego Police, San Diego Probation, US Marshals, members of the San Diego District Attorney’s Office, Local San Diego Law firms, teachers from the juvenile detention facilities and 16 San Diego Judges.

The event showcased the love and care these members show in their area by going far over the call of duty. Many of these people work with incarcerated children. The people who were awarded received awards for continuing their work after hours,and making an impact in the lives of incarcerated children. One of the members awarded was the only Police officer assigned to the San Diego Gang task force. The primary key-note speaker was Tim Shelton. Shelton was introduced by Troy Hirsch, the sports anchor for Fox 5 San Diego and host of Game On.

Tim Shelton gave an inspirational speech about his story growing up in a gang. He was able to break out of that situation and make something better. Shelton did not back down and gave one hell of a speech considering the company. San Diego Police Chief William Lansdowne was even in attendance. During the speech, Shelton announced that the 26 seconds campaign he had spearheaded had raised over $40,000. He finished his speech to a round of applause from the crowd.

The story of the day, working the hardest everyone can attempting to change the lives of San Diego’s  incarcerated juveniles. The work of all the talented people awarded today goes on, with or without recognition. Tim Shelton was inspirational to many members in attendance. After the event ended Shelton, was approached by many people requesting autographs which Shelton was willing to provide. One of the youngest members awarded today was so impressed by Shelton’s speech he now wants to help out in the community.
