2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics

The 2012 London games were executed perfectly and will be known as one of the best Summer Olympics in recent history. It is impossible for every person in the world to fall in love with every Olympics.

China mesmerized the world with their machine like opening and closing ceremonies. London mesmerized the world with their laid back pop culture stating that everyone can win. Now we head to the first South American country to ever hold the Olympic Games, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Rio De Janeiro is set to spend nearly $12 billion in massive infrastructure projects. These infrastructure projects include new sporting venues, a new metro line, revamped airports, new and improved roads and a renovated port district.  During the 2014 Winter Olympic season in Sochi, Russia, Rio will be hosting the 2014 World Cup.

The 2014 World Cup will give the world a small view of what the 2016 Rio Olympic games will look like. The good thing for Rio will be the fact the Winter Olympics as already stated will be going on at the same time. This could help cover up the 2016 Olympics should Brazil happen to find themselves behind in construction.

“While the Brazilians will undoubtedly pull together a great party, the hangover will last for a generation,” Gaffney said.

More than 230 projects are slated to be finished by the 2016 games, with the sports venues scheduled for delivery between mid-2015 and early-2016 for test events, according to the International Olympic Committee. Of those, over 65 have already been completed or are in the final stages. au.sports.yahoo.com

Two new sports will make their debut in Rio De Janeiro in 2016. These two sports are golf and rugby sevens. Rugby sevens is the same as seven man rugby. These two sports were voted into commission  on October 9, 2009, the final day of the 121st IOC (International Olympic Committee) Session.

From your local stand point the United States Women’s Rugby Seven Team trains in San Diego at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center. We will (WILL) be following them and all San Diego athletes in their pursuit of Olympic gold. (Posting stories on all local International competitions)
