Padres: Nearing .500 win mark on the season.
The San Diego Padres are one of the hottest teams in baseball right now in the month of May. The Padres bats have come alive and the Padres pitching have returned to last seasons form. Looking back on the last seven games the Padres swept the Baltimore Orioles in a short two game series, split a four game series with the Washington Nationals and have beaten the Saint Louis Cardinals.
One of the major reasons the Padres have been playing better lies with how good the Padres have been hitting. All of the following Padres are hitting above .300 in the past week: Kyle Blanks (.308), Yonder Alonso (.320), Mark Kotsay (.333), Jedd Gyorko (.360), Everth Cabrera (.387), Chris Denorfia (.400) and Alexi Amarista (.429). Over the past seven games the Padres hitters name above have hit six home runs and have driven in 23 runs. The rest of the team has hit three home runs and have driven in 13 runs. Giving the Padres a total of 9 home runs and 36 RBI’s (run’s batted in) in the past seven games.
“San Diego has scored 92 runs over its last 19 games, most in the NL and an average of 4.84 per game that’s left manager Bud Black praising his lineup. The Padres followed up a 15-hit, 13-run outing against the Nationals on Sunday by scoring four against the Cardinals, including three on five hits and three walks against tough rookie Shelby Miller.” Padres.com
The San Diego Padres will have the following starters pitching for the remainder of the Saint Louis Cardinal’s series:
May 21st: Edinson Volquez
May 22nd: Burch Smith
