Welcome to the 2013 Fall semester at San Diego State University and the first Aztec football game of the season. This preview is going to look a lot different from those posted here on San Diego Sports Domination posted last year. We cannot do a statistical breakdown on both teams since it is only the first game of the season. The stats that you will see in this breakdown are from last year. We predict SDSU and Eastern Illinois will be a high scoring game. The Aztec defensive will have some problems on the corners due to Eastern Illinois high-octane spread offence. The Aztec defensive should slow down the run game of Eastern Illinois as they return as one of the leagues best run defensive teams.

San Diego State Overall (9-4) Conf (7-1)

This section of the article will normally breakdown how good or how bad the Aztec offensive and defensive units are doing this season. Since this is the first game of the season we can only guess how good the team will be. Based off last season’s performance look for the San Diego State Defense to dominate the run. The Aztecs were one of the best teams against the run last season giving up on average 133 yards per game on 37 attempts (3.6 yards per carry). The Aztec secondary was shaky last year giving up on average 235 yards per game on 34 attempts. I believe the Aztec’s defensive unit will outperform the Aztec’s offensive unit. Be on the lookout for big plays by the Aztec defense.

This Eastern Illinois team will remind all San Diego State fans of the North Dakota State team we played last season. ELU loves to run the spread offensive and loves throwing the ball. I can assure you that ELU will be targeting the young and inexperienced SDSU defensive backs. Eastern Illinois will have major problems trying to run the ball on this talented and experienced Aztec defensive unit.
