Fresno State is sure to be the favored team coming into this game next weekend. They have a crazy good passing attack. A little bit of history of the rivalry. The Aztec-Bulldog series dates back to 1923. San Diego State was the only school in the city and Fresno State was the only school from the valley. They used to have to carry oil cans with them to be able to make the trip to San Diego. This is the reason why the rivalry game is for the battle of the Oil Can. San Diego State won the initial meeting 12-2 at home.  San Diego State leads the all-time series at 27-21-4.

This game for the Aztecs will be won or lost in the defensive secondary. If they Aztecs fail to cover the fast wide receivers of Fresno State they will be BLOWN OUT. This Fresno State team is led by Carr one of the best quarterbacks in the country. The Fresno State rush defense will be busy trying to figure out how to stop the Aztec rushing attack. Donnel Pumphrey the speedster can beat you on the outside and Adam Muema can beat you running inside the tackles. Pumphrey has recorded three straight 100 yard games and Muema looks to be the same running back we saw last season.

The San Diego State defense who has been having trouble against the passing game is going to have major issues going up against the 4th best passing team in the nation. Fresno State will need to move the ball on the ground against the Aztecs to insure the passing game opens up. San Diego State should have some designed quarterback draw plays designed as the Bulldogs have been hurt by quarterbacks who can run.

Fresno State’s vulnerability on defensive side of the ball is the run game. San Diego State must get the run game going to beat Fresno State. Fresno State will have their way with the young San Diego State defensive backs. The only way for San Diego State to stay in the this game is to answer touchdown with touchdown.
