SDS Recruiting Football: 2013 OG Sergio Phillips Commits SDSU

I had the privilege of interviewing Sergio Phillips an Offensive Guard and member of the 2013 football recruiting class. Sergio Phillips is from from DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas. He is 6 foot 3 and weights 300 pounds. Sergio is ranked the 52nd best offensive guard in the class of 2013 and is ranked 3 stars by scout.com. I created a list of 11 questions that I believe our audience would find interesting about the life of a young football recruit. These are the questions that I asked Sergio, followed with his answers.

Recruiting Interview:

Question: What universities are in your top 5? What universities have you received offers from up to date? Have their been any universities you have been in contact with the most?

Sergio: I don’t have a top 5. San Diego State, New Mexico State, Memphis, University of New Mexico.

Question: Do you have a dream university? If they were to offer you a position, would to commit on the spot?

Sergio: NO

Question: What do you look for in a University?

Sergio: Great coaching staff and my major.

Question: Does the fan base of the university make an impact on your recruitment?

Sergio: Yes I love a fan base, I want them to follow me @TheyCallMeSerg

Question: Based on national media and fan bases, does it matter what conference you play in?

Sergio: No not at all.

Question: What is your 40 time?

Sergio: 5.23

Question: What is your max bench and max squat?

Sergio: Bench: 325 lbs Squat: 475lbs

Question: What are your strengths on the Offensive Line?

Sergio: Pass PRO,Run block,Pad level,Good base

Question: What are your weaknesses on the Offensive Line?

Sergio: Awareness

Question: As an offensive line man, you receive no credit for the successful plays and you are criticized when you make a noticeable mistake. What is your favorite job as a member of the offensive line? Pass blocking? Run blocking?

Sergio: ”Run Blocking” is my specialty you get to run of the ball and go attack, and expect me to put you on your back.

Question: Name a college or NFL athlete that people compare you to. What college or NFL athlete do you idolize and how do their skill sets match yours?

Sergio: I feel that I can compare myself to Ndamukong Suh the Detroit lions defensive tackle, because we have the same personality even though he plays on the defense side of the ball.
