SDSU Football: 2012 Season Preview
The San Diego State Aztecs walk into the 12/13 football season predicted to finish around 5th or 6th place in the Mountain West Conference. I completely disagree with that prediction.
QB Ryan Katz: This transfer from Oregon State has one hell of an arm. State fans have witnessed one of the slower quarterbacks in SDSU history in Ryan Lindley. That is not the story with Katz. He has good speed and shows great agility. I am hoping Katz will not need to demonstrate this speed in the up coming season. *No stats at SDSU*
Career Stats:
Passing: ….407 Att… 240 Comp…… 590 Pct% …… 2,737 Yards… 19 TD …. 12 INT……152.1 YPG
Rushing: …….95 Carries…….50 Yards……..(.5 YPC)…………2 TD.
RB Adam Muema: Adam Muema was given the difficult task taking of over for Ronnie Hillman during the Boise State game this past season. Muema had 13 carries, for 119 yards (9.2 YPC) and 2 TD’s. He also had 1 reception for 1 yard and 1 TD, on the receiving side of the offensive. Arizona State got obliterated by Boise State’s defense. Arizona State had 21 carries for negative 11 yards in the MAACO Bowl in Las Vegas, Nevada. SDSU has an extremely capable running back.
Career Stats:
Running:……..42 Carries……… 253 Yards……6.0 (YPC)…….3 TD.
Receiving:……..2 Receptions…….3 Yards……1.5 (YPC)…….1 TD.
TE Gavin Escobar: Gavin Escobar is a future NFL Draft pick. Escobar will be the main offensive weapon for the Aztecs this up coming season. The Jr. Tight end is top 10 in all receiving categories for tights ends and in most categories top 5. Escobar was a major target for Ryan Lindley in bowl games and on third down situations. Gavin Escobar is the best tight end in the Mountain West Conference!
Career Stats:
Receiving:…….80 Receptions…….1,103 Yards….. 13.2 (YPC)…….11 TD.
WR Brice Butler: Butler transfered from the University of Southern California (USC) this past summer into San Diego State. Butler wanted the opportunity to play in the NFL and he would not get the opportunity he wants, reason for transferring. Butler will be a first string wide receiver at San Diego State. Marking the first time since Vincent Brown (Chargers) and Demarco Sampson (Cardinals) the Aztecs have had a real speed and position receiver. *No stats at SDSU*
Career Stats:
Receiving:…….41 Receptions……..554 Yards……13.2 (YPC)……… 3 TD.
WR Colin Lockett: Lockett is a member of the crew that took over for Vincent Brown (Chargers) and Demarco Sampson (Cardinals). He struggled at some points throughout the season with drops. Lockett was a defensive back the season before, and was converted to wide receiver due to injuries. I expect Lockett to have a breakout season.
Career Stats:
Running:……….7 Carries……….. 96 Yards……13.7 (YPC)…….0 TD.
Receiving:…….58 Receptions……..970 Yards……16.7 (YPC)……… 8 TD.
WR Dylan Denso: Denso is another member of the crew that took over for Vincent Brown (Chargers) and Demarco Sampson (Cardinals). Denso has speed that the Aztecs will need. He has been working on his has and working on becoming a position receiver.
Career Stats:
Receiving:…….53 Receptions……..673 Yards……11.4 (YPC)……… 3 TD.
WR Dominique Sandifer: Sandifer is the last remaning member of the crew that took over for Vincent Brown (Chargers) and Demarco Sampson (Cardinals). Sandifer is a veteran member of this receiving core and believe combined with the veteran Brice Butler will have the Aztecs receiving core ready to go.
Career Stats:
Running:……….1 Carrie……….. 14 Yards…… 14 (YPC)…….1 TD.
Receiving:……..49 Receptions…….561 Yards…… 11.5 (YPC)…….2 TD.
