Looking back in the past weeks SDSU played a Washington team who likes to play the spread followed by Army who likes to play the triple option. The Aztec defense is lockdown on the running game and does need work with passing. The Aztecs offensive is unstoppable with the double tangent of Walter Kazee and Adam Muema. The two backs are averaging over five yards per carry on the season. Behind a great passing attack lead by Oregon State transfer Ryan Katz and should be All-American tight end Gavin Escobar.

San Diego State (2-3)

San Diego State beat a bad team in Army and a good FCS team in North Dakota. The Aztecs lost to three very good teams in Fresno State, San Jose State and Washington. The San Diego State defense has played very bad in the fourth quarter so far this season giving up 41 points. The San Diego State ground attack will be the difference in this game vs. Hawaii. Mountain West Conference partner Nevada ran all over Hawaii totaling up over 355 yards on the ground.

Now lets break down the Hawaii schedule up to this point in the season. They played a great USC team at USC and were pummeled. Hawaii also faced hard games against MWC counterpart Nevada and were pummeled. Hawaii would suffer the same fate vs. BYU losing 47 to 0. Hawaii played a horrible Lamar team and blew them out as expected for their only win on the season.

Loss at #1 USC = 10 – 49
USC (1-0)

Win vs. Lamar  = 54 – 2
Lamar (0-2)

Loss vs. Nevada = 69 – 24
Nevada (3-1)

The last time San Diego State and Hawaii met was in 2005. Hawaii came away with the victory 49-38. The Aztec team in 2005 finished 2 – 10. The major offensive statistical difference was in passing as SDSU had 421 yards to Hawaii’s 326 yards. The Aztecs gave up 262 yards on the ground. This is a much different San Diego State Aztec team then the team Hawaii played.
