SDSU Football: Big East Conference Falling Apart?
With San Diego State right in the middle of conference realignment new problems might be popping up for San Diego State and their move to the Big East Conference. The new conference breakdown of the Big East Western Division would be San Diego State, Boise State, Houston, Memphis, SMU and Temple. The Big East Eastern Division would be UCF (Central Florida), Cincinnati, Connecticut, Louisville, Rutgers and USF (South Florida).
Today it looks like problems are starting to brew in the east as Rutgers wants out of the Big East conference and looks to join the Big 10. There are rumors out all over twitter right now that Rutgers will get that offer to the Big 10 as early as tomorrow. This leaves three options for San Diego State and Boise State.
#1) Stay in the Mountain West Conference
#2) Move into the Big East Conference
#3) Keep teams in the Big West and go independent in football.
As I’ve said over and over: TV money is driving Boise State decision. MW TV situation is terrible. Big East’s just bad (right now)

This tweet by the San Diego State Football team gives us the idea no matter the problems the Big East is having they still feel comfortable moving to the Big East. Remember why San Diego State wanted to leave the Mountain West Conference? The main reason was financial. In the Mountain west conference the Aztecs made on average around $1 million per year in television revenue. With the move to the Big East Conference the Aztecs were set to make around $ 4.7 – 5 million not including bowl games and AP Top 25 teams. The move to the Big East will also help San Diego State in recruiting.

If you pick the option to stay in the Big East everyone needs to remember that the Naval Academy will be joining the Big East Conference in 2015. The Big East is still looking for two more teams to join the conference for football. The two names that we have heard are Air Force and BYU. If you had to choose the destiny of San Diego State and Boise State what would you do?

Boise State, San Diego State and BYU have had conversations with Mountain West membership about the possibility of returning to the league, sources told ESPN. These talks originated after last week’s decision in Denver by the BCS commissioners awarded an automatic access bowl berth to the highest rated champion to the “Group of Five” conferences. That decision, in essence, put the Mountain West on equal footing as far as playoff access with the Big East starting in 2014 ESPN.com
Just talked to SDSU AD Jim Sterk. He said the #Aztecs have not had any talk with #MWC about a return.
