The San Diego State University Aztecs had a small crowd on hand for the game against Texas Southern University. The starting five for San Diego State tonight were Jamaal Franklin, DeShawn Stephens, JJ O’Brien, Chase Tapley and Xavier Thames. The Aztecs came out shooting on fire and then cooled off. The Aztecs started the game on a 20 to 3 run against the Tigers. The Aztecs were able to hold a 34 to 16 lead over TSU at halftime. The top defensive players in the first half of the game were DeShawn Stephens and Jamaal Franklin.

The Tigers came out of halftime on fire going on a 9 and 2 run. The Aztecs were playing horrible giving away turnover after turnover after turnover. The Aztecs have than taken over once they got into double bonus shots. Making 8 straight free throws. The Aztecs than regained the boards and could not be stopped. The Texas Southern defense was able to hold the San Diego State Aztecs to 15 for 33 (45.5%) shooting from the floor, 4-7 (57.1%) from beyond the arc and 0-0 (100%) from the free throw line. The Aztecs out rebounded the Tigers the 23 to 16. The best player of the first half for San Diego State was DeShawn Stephens with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 1 block.

Texas Southern University started the second half of the game on fire going on a 9 to 2 run. San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher was forced to call a timeout. Texas Southern is running a full court press to start the second half. Coming off the Aztecs timeout we had a double technical foul just called on Chase Tapley and Omar Strong. Five minutes later Jamaal Franklin is called for a technical foul. The Texas Southern defense was able to hold the San Diego State Aztecs to 27 for 58 (46.6%) shooting from the floor, 5-10 (50%) from beyond the arc and 15-17 (88.2%) from the free throw line. The Aztecs out rebounded the Tigers the 39 to 29. The Player of the game was Jamaal Franklin: 18 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steal and 2 blocks.
