The Aztecs are still trying to improve with shooting from the floor and behind the arc. The Aztecs are shooting 45.3% from the floor and 35.3% from behind the arc. This team has a plethora of shooters and can blow out teams when they are shooting their best as they did against Arkansas Pine Bluff, UCLA and UCSB. The Aztecs need major improvement in the free throw game but have improved their free throw shooting average to 67.2%. The Aztecs have also been working harder this season on offensive and defensive rebounds. The Aztecs have shown how much work pays off in the rebounding game as the Aztecs are out rebounding their opponents 482 to 426.
The San Diego State Aztecs are ranked 19th by the AP Top 25 and 17th in the USA Today coaches’ poll. This is perhaps the most hyped team in SDSU history even more so than the 34-3 team two years ago. The Aztecs starting five for Wednesday’s game will be Xavier Thames, Chase Tapley. Jamaal Franklin, JJ ‘O Brien and DeShawn Stephens. Once again the only San Diego State freshman who is red-shirting this season is Matt Shrigley. Look for Skylar Spencer, Winston Shepard, Dwayne Polee II and James Johnson to receive a lot of minutes in the upcoming game.
The Road Runners have some height on their team with Mo Hughley (6-7), Tyrone White (6-7), Corey Hall (6-7), Adam Young (6-8), Justin Omogun (6-8), Kregg Jones (6-8), Abdul Ahmed (6-10) and Tyler Smith (6-11).The smallest players on the CSUB team is Dee Wallace (5-10), Britton Williams (5-11), Issiah Grayson (5-11) and Mathew Ratto (5-11).The Road Runners have a good-sized squad that will put up a fight on the boards against a very talented Aztec squad.
This is the first meeting between SDSU and Cal State Bakersfield.

Kregg Jones grew up in Barbados, but went to Army-Navy up in Carlsbad for his Senior year of High School. During his freshman year in the San Joaquin Valley, he came off the bench for all 23 of his appearances. During those 23 games he averaged just 10 min/gm.
