SDSU Basketball: No.16/15 SDSU Escapes Fresno State 65-62 (Post Game)

The San Diego State University Aztecs had a small crowd (5,600) on hand for the game against Fresno State. The starting five for San Diego State tonight were Jamaal Franklin, DeShawn Stephens, JJ O’Brien, Chase Tapley and Winston Shepard. San Diego State point guard Xavier Thames was forced to sit out the game due to a bad back. San Diego State started off the game on a 16-8 run. The Aztecs were led on the run by star shooting guard Jamaal Franklin who had 8 of the 16 points.The San Diego State Aztecs were led in the first half by star shooing guard Jammal Franklin. Franklin ended the first half with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

In the second half of the game Aztec fans watched James Rahon catch fire. Rahon hit 3 pointer after 3 pointer to help SDSU maintain a very close lead. The Aztecs had three men in double figures midway through the second half James Rahon, DeShawn Stephens and Jamaal Franklin. The Aztecs struggled with free throw shooting in the second half. SDSU had a one point lead over Fresno State at the one minute mark of the game. Winston Shepard had a major block at the :32 second mark to give SDSU possession. Jamaal Franklin makes two free throws to give the Aztecs a 65 to 62 lead with :15.3 seconds remaining in the game. Getting redemption for the free throws he missed at the end of the Arizona game.

The Aztecs ended the game shooting 26-54 (48.1%) from the floor, 6-18 (33.3%) from beyond the arc and 7-12 (58.3%) from the free throw line. The player of the game for SDSU was Jamaal Franklin who scored 20 points and had 18 rebounds. San Diego State now has won 32 straight against teams in California.

Jamaal Franklin had the dunk of the year against Fresno State.
