Now that San Diego State is back in the Mountain West Conference many fans feel at ease. The Mountain West Conference has released the new conference breakdowns for the 2013 football season. There will be two leagues in the new Mountain West Conference the West and the Mountain. The winner of each division will meet at a conference championship held in the first week of December at the highest ranked BCS school.
Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, San Jose State and UNLV.
Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State and Wyoming.
San Diego State got a great deal. Now the potential conference championship game will most likely be played against Boise State. San Diego State, Fresno State and Nevada will be the most dominant programs in the Western Division. Boise State and Utah State will become the most dominant programs in the Mountain Division.
Mountain West Conference Basketball Will NOT HAVE DIVISIONS. The basketball programs will be forced to play 18 conference games preseason. The Aztecs played 14 conference games in the 2012 season. The Aztecs will play 16 conference games during the 2013 season.
The Mountain West Conference had just signed (Dec 23rd) a media rights deal with CBS-Sports Network. The media rights deal runs through 2015-16 with a network option for an additional four years. The key part of the television contract for SDSU is the Mountain West Conference can sell packages of games up to two additional national networks. This would allow San Diego State to continue the contract with the University of Kansas. This was a big issue for many Aztec fans.
