I was fortunate enough to be granted an interview with AMA Super/Motocross Red Bull Athlete, Ryan Dungey. Dungey has won numerous races in AMA Supercross and Motocross competitions including 12 Supercross light titles and 10 Motocross 450 class titles.  I would like to thank my fraternity (ΦΔΘ) brother Ikaika Kekua for getting us the interview with Ryan Dungey!

Interview with Ryan Dungey

DoubleSD: What sparked your interest in AMA Super/Motocross?

Ryan Dungey: Riding dirt bikes is something my family and I have always done. As kids my dad and grandfather would take my brothers and I riding to local tracks. My interest and career stemmed from there.

DoubleSD: What companies are you sponsored by?

Ryan Dungey: Personal sponsors: KTM, Red Bull, Fox, Target, Nike, Oakley, Skull Candy and Trek.

DoubleSD: Which of your 37-career AMA Super/Motocross win’s mean the most to you?

Ryan Dungey: It’s hard to say that one win means more than another. I think anytime you achieve a ‘first’ in something then that is always going to stand out and mean a lot. Things like my first win in the SX Lites class; first 250 Motocross win and then both first time wins racing SX and MX on the 450 class stand out. But my first win for Red Bull/KTM last year at Phoenix also means a lot because we achieved a first for the team and I guess I have a few win that mean a lot to me!

DoubleSD: Why do you think AMA Super/Motocross should be an Olympic sport?

Ryan Dungey: At the highest level of this sport we work and train just as hard as any other professional athlete in any other sport. Staying at the top is a fulltime job and a way of life. Why shouldn’t our sport and athleticism be recognized on the world stage alongside other top athletes and sports?

DoubleSD: Do you have anything else you would like our audience to know?

Ryan Dungey: Anything else? Well, I would like kids out there to know that above all else they must have fun riding or playing any sport they are into. If you have fun and enjoy what you do, and one day decide you want to become a professional in your sport, then it makes the job (and it is a hectic fulltime job if you become pro) a whole lot more enjoyable!
