Normally during senior night all of the team’s seniors would get to start the game. This would not be the case at San Diego State due to the fact three seniors are part of the 12 man rotation and three seniors are walk ons. The seniors who started the game for the Aztecs were DeShawn Stephens, Chase Tapley and James Rahon. Stephens started senior night off great by controlling the opening tip-off. The Aztecs “wanted to thank the student’s for coming to games this season” by scoring in the first minute of the game. This season if the Aztecs scored in the first minute of the game the student section also known as “The Show” would be given free fish tacos! This is the best way to blow the roof off of Viejas Arena! Many fans rolled in periodically throughout the first twenty minutes of the game. This was by far one of the most electric games in terms of crowd noise this season and with only about 9,000 to 10,000 fans in their seats!

San Diego State dominated the offensive and defensive boards throughout the game. The Aztecs rebounding attack was led by Jamaal Franklin who ended the game with 14 rebounds of which 12 were defensive. Senior DeShawn Stephens would end the last game of his home career with 3 points and 7 rebounds. Senior Chase Tapley would end the last game of his home career with 10 points and 2 rebounds. Senior James Rahon would end the last game of his home career with 5 points and 4 rebounds. Air Force battled San Diego State the whole game and had the rest of the crowd thinking are the three senior walk on’s going to play in their last game at Viejas Arena? The Aztecs then managed to pull to a 14 point lead over Air Force with about one minute remaining in the game. The fan’s started to chant Castleberry, Castleberry and Coach Steve Fisher called the timeout. The next play the remaining three senior walk on’s Aaron Douglas, Narbeh Ebrahimian and Jermey Castleberry went into the game. The three walk on’s would not score in the final minute of the game. Even though the walk on’s did not receive major playing time they loved the opportunity to play at home one last time! After the game we walked down to say good-bye to the out going seniors and Jermery Castleberry had his shoes from the game in a shoe box. Fan’s asked him why are you carrying around a shoe box? Castleberry said these shoes are getting framed. This is the attitude of a winner. The walk on’s knew they would not be playing at the next level and made the most out of their college basketball career!
