The Summer Olympics have always rekindled the heart of the games in the young and old generations. Swimming has grown to become one of the biggest Olympic sports in the world. San Diego State sent five swim team members to the United States Olympic Swim Trials. Unfortunately none of the SDSU swimmers made it to the 2012 London Olympics as part of team USA.

Four of those Olympic trial swimmers (Leona Jennings, Katelyn Weddle, Mikaela Macklin and Meghan Zimmer) that competed in the Olympic trials returned to SDSU looking to better themselves and the program. Having put the failure of not making the team in the past all four of these swim team members have broken records left and right this season! Mikaela Macklin was the Mountain West Conference Swimmer of the Year for 2013. Mike Shrader earned his fourth Mountain West Conference Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year award!

The San Diego State swim team added a pair of school records at the recently concluded 2013 NCAA Championships held on March 21-23 in Indianapolis. Senior Leona Jennings broke her own school record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.40. Sophomore Chelsea Bailey also set a school record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.70. San Diego State also had four members of its 200 medley relay team (Leona Jennings, Katelyn Weddle, Gemma Johnson and Meghan Zimmer) named as honorable mention All-Americans in Indianapolis. This has been a very successful season for the SDSU swim team who finished the season 10-1 and won the Mountain West Conference Championship (Second time in three years that SDSU won the Mountain West Conference championship)

This is a video of the SDSU swim team celebrating the Mountain West Conference Championship victory!  When we get video of the NCAA Tournament we will post it!
