Padres: Opening day has arrived.

Opening day is finally here! For many American sports fans opening day is the start of summer. There is nothing better than the smell of hotdogs cooking on the grill, the smell of fresh-cut grass and sitting with a cold beverage watching baseball. The bad thing is that Padres fans are going to have to wait until April 9th for the first home game of the season.

For those who have not been keeping track of the San Diego Padres this spring the opening day roster will make you think. San Diego’s star third basemen Chase Headley was injured during spring training and will be beginning the 2013 season on the disabled list. Headley fractured the tip of his left thumb while sliding into second base during a spring training game, jamming it into the bag while trying to break up a double play. Utility man Logan Forsythe who is normally Chase Headley’s back up was also injured during spring training and will start the 2013 season on the 15-day disabled list. We are going to be seeing one of the best players in the Padres farm system in Jedd Gyorko. Cody Ransom will start the season at third base for the injured Chase Headley.
