Excitement, and anxiety. Those were the words that described my emotions waiting for the first pitch against the Mets Monday morning. But soon that would all change as the Mets run number climbed, and climbed. While the Padres came out and knocked in a run after the Mets scored 2, the game would once again slip away from them in the bottom half of the inning. Though I thought it was insane that Volquez was still in the game after throwing nearly 70 pitches and only achieving 9 outs. It was clear Black wanted him to keep going since it was only the 4th inning and the pitcher warming up wasn’t fully ready yet. However, Volquez left the game in the 4th and the batters he left on, eventually scored. In just 4 innings, the Padres faced a 6 run deficit. Yonder Alonso continued his hot streak from Spring Training, sending one over the outfield wall in the 6th. But in the 7th, the Mets sent home 4 in a Grand Slam. The Padres would lose their first game of the season, 11-2.
