The Periodic Padre: First win of the season!

It has taken longer than what I had hoped for to announce and say this. But the Padres have FINALLY won a game. Yes, you heard it right. They FINALLY won a game. The Padres finally cooled off the hot bats of the Mets, not allowing a run until the bottom of the 9th. Thanks in large part to Eric Stults who pitched very well for the starting job as nearly half of his outs were strikeouts. The Padres bullpen did it’s job (again) after trying to keep a sinking ship somewhat afloat after the first 2 games. Allowing just 2 hits in 4 innings of work and striking out 7, combined. Gyorko brought in the Padres first lead of the season, after a ball he pulled down the 3rd base line–which almost went foul–drove in Kotsay. The other run came from a wild pitch, which eventually would bite the Mets since they got a solo shot from John Buck in the bottom of the 9th which could have made it a 1-1 ball game. Alas, Street got his first save of the season. Padres win, 2-1.

Player of the game: Eric Stults: 5.0 IP, 3 hits, 7 K’s, 2 BB.

Series Record: 1-2
Season Record: 1-2
Road Record: 1-2
Home Record: 0-0

Next Game: April 5th, 1:10 PM (PST), @ Colorado Rockies.

Probable Starters:
Padres: Jason Marquis RHP
Rockies: Jeff Francis LHP

Final Note:
To bring a positive to a somewhat disappointing series for the pitching staff. If the Mets failed to get a run in the bottom of the 9th in the past game. The Padres would be going into Colorado with their opponents failing to score a run in the past 12 innings.

The Periodic Padre: Chapter 1, Edition 1, Article 3.
April 4th, 2013. San Diego Padres @ New York Mets. Game 3 of 162.

Once teams and pitchers play more games, before every series I will post their hitting and pitching numbers and for the “probable starters” I will post their stat line. Don’t expect this until 2-4 weeks as they accumulate their stats.
