We are going to start our position breakdown with the San Diego State Quarterbacks. Just like last year the Aztecs will have some competition at quarterback. This article has been broken down into sections. At the top we have the information about the players including depth charts and at the end of the article we have the bio on each of the quarterbacks.

Not Returning:

  • Ryan Katz (Signed NDFA by Denver Broncos)

Key Pick Up:

  • QB Quinn Kaehler (Transfer)

Projected Starter:

  • Adam Dingwell

Possible Starter: (This is a prediction based on QB competition)

  • Quinn Kaehler

Depth Chart:

  • Adam Dingwell
  • Quinn Kaehler
  • Jake Bernards
  • Chad Jeffries
  • Chase Favreau

QB Adam Dingwell (Junior): 93-144 for 939 yards and eight touchdowns. Dingwell was thrust into the hard-hitting game against Nevada last season when Ryan Katz was injured. Dingwell was able to complete the upset of the Nevada and Boise State. Dingwell finished the season with a record of five wins and one loss. The one loss being a blowout loss to BYU in the San Diego County Poinsettia Bowl.

QB Quinn Kaehler (Transfer): 309-511 with 4044 yards passing and 38 TD’s. He is a transfer from Diablo Valley Community College. Kaehler has a great ability to scan the field and find the least covered receiver. Kaehler has a very strong-arm and can scramble if need be. Kaehler enrolled in SDSU last semester and competed for the starting job during spring practice. Kaehler had a great spring practice and was moved to second in the depth chart and will compete for the starting job this fall.

Jake Bernards (Senior): Bernards has been with the Aztecs for five years. Bernards has only made it into two games for the Aztecs over the past five years and has only thrown the ball once (1-1 for 10 yards). Coming into spring practice Bernards was second in the depth chart.

Chad Jeffries (Sophomore): Jeffries has not seen any playing time at San Diego State. The major upside with Jeffries is his command of the Pro Style Offensive. Jeffries also has good speed to run the option if need be. I do not see Jeffries stepping onto the field this season.

Chase Favreau (Red Shirt Freshman): Favreau is a hidden gem that the Aztecs were able to acquire back in 2012. He was injured during his high school career. San Diego State decided to continue recruiting him after the injury which is a big reason Favreau committed to San Diego State. Due to that injury he decided to grey shirt and enroll at SDSU in 2013.
