USD Beats SUU By A Score of 67 to 52
Special to San Diego Sports Domination By Chris Davis
SAN DIEGO, CALIF. — It only took San Diego three and a half minutes before they finally got their first basket. But when you own a 10-0 record against Southern Utah heading into the game, the Toreros did not seemed too worried. Why be worried after going on a 13-0 run during the middle portion of the first half on their way to a 67-52 win.
The game became somewhat close late as the Toreros (9-4) emptied the bench as Southern Utah (1-8) went on a 22-10 run over the last 10:00 of the game.
To try and stay in the game, Southern Utah started throwing up three point shots as often as possible hitting only nine for the game (on 19 attempts). A pair of Thunderbirds reached double-figures — Eric Rippetoe (14) and A.J. Hess (13) — while only a total of eight players scored.
For USD, three players reached double-figures — Johnny Dee (16), Dennis Kramer (15), and Christopher Anderson (12). No player on either team reached double-digits in the rebounding category, as USD was +9 (33-24) on the boards.
The Thunderbirds were coming into the game after getting trounced 76-39 by the Aztecs.
USD will take Christmas week off before beginning WCC play at Pepperdine on the 28th. LMU will come to Jenny Craig Pavilion on January 9 for a 7:00 PM tip that will be shown on Time Warner Cable Sportsnet. It will be the second time the Lions and Toreros face each other in 11 days.
