Final: San Diego Flash 3 And FC Santa Clarita 1
The San Diego Flash and the FC Santa Clarita Storm met in the opening match of the 2014 NPSL (National Premier Soccer League) season. This game was the rematch of a controversial game ending the 2013 season. The game ended with a controversial call that sent the San Diego Flash into the NPSL playoffs and sent the FC Santa Clarita Storm packing. The San Diego Flash started the game with two quick shots on goal. The San Diego Flash had been the superior team offensively though out the first half of the game. Most of the match was played on the Storm’s side of the field. This game was very physical and the refs allowed the player to play. The Flash found themselves leading the game 2-0 at halftime.
However, the Flash seemed to be gassed during the second half of the match. One reason for this may have been how many players the Flash had on the bench compared to that of the Storm. The FC Santa Clarita Storm travels with 18th players (a full second squad). They used that to their advantage and were able to get some fresh feet into the game. Thus leading to the Storm scoring the last goal of the game in the 73rd minute. The San Diego Flash would go onto victory by a final score of 3-1 over FC Santa Clarita Storm.
