Aqeel Quinn out for at least a month with broken bone in left hand.
This afternoon San Diego State Point Guard Aqeel Quinn posted a photo of himself in a cast to his Instagram account. He also posted a short message via his personal Instagram account: “Minor Setback…First surgery ever! Love all my family for checking in on me! #iWillBeBack”. This is a huge loss for SDSU as Quinn was the Aztecs leading scorer off the bench and was the 2nd leading scorer overall averaging 9.7 points per game on a team that struggled to begin the season on the offensive side of the ball. Quinn will be missed when the Aztecs travel to Washington this Sunday and when the Aztecs travel to Cincinnati on December 17th. San Diego State will begin Mountain West Conference play on December 31st home against Air Force and play the University of New Mexico at home on January 6th. On the bright side Matt Shrighley who was injured against Point Loma Nazarene is feeling 100% and should be back for SDSU’s game against University of San Diego on Thursday.
According to Mark Zeigler of the San Diego Union Tribune, Quinn broke a bone in his left hand. He will be out for at least a month. I would also expect Quinn to have rehab which could set him back even further. Quinn is the captain of this Aztecs team and will be dearly missed. I would expect Steve Fisher to give Kell and Zabo more minutes at the point now that Quinn is out. We could even see Winston Shepard or JJ O’Brien getting some playing time at point guard.
