Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup San Diego Flash vs. Temecula FC (3-7-15)
With the sun setting on a beautiful day in March the San Diego Flash Soccer Club met Temecula FC in the National Premier Soccer League South West Qualifying Match of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. One thing was different when I arrived at the stadium. No Clent Alexander. Alexander the CEO of Flash and a dear friend of San Diego Sports Domination passed away this past February after a long heath battle. This was the first game for the Flash with out Alexander at the helm. The San Diego Flash had a beautiful ceremony before the match to honor Clent Alexander. The San Diego Flash and Temecula FC came out onto the field with white and black balloons (Flash Newcastle Inspired Jerseys). After a moment of silence was observed in honor of Alexander the refs blew the whistle and the balloons floated into the heavens.

The Flash shot out of the starting gate and looked to be in midseason form (keep in mind the NPSL season does not start till mid April). The Flash attacked the Quails often and the time of possession would go in favor of the Flash during the first half. The First Flash goal of the night came in the 24th minute off a Duach Jock header assisted by Nick Hamilton. The physically of the game would increase along with injures to players on both teams. The Quails went on the offensive and scored the equalizer in the 40th minute of the match. The Quails goal was credited to Isais Cruz and the assist went to Brent Zahn. The Flash and the Quails would head into the locker room after the first half tied at 1.
The Temecula FC Quails had a special presentation to make to the San Diego Flash during halftime of last nights game.

The Flash came out of the locker-room on fire to begin the second half. Alessandro Canalle would take a page out of Jock’s play book with the header to put the Flash up 2-1 in the 49th minute. The assist was credited to Luke Staats a new member of the San Diego Flash. The goal by Canalle would put the Quails behind for good. Canalle would launch a rocket into the back of the net past Kurt Merrill the Quails goalkeeper in the 66th minute for his second goal of the match. After 66 minutes the Flash had a 3-1 lead over the Quails. The Quails would be unable to recover from the two goal deficit. The Quails became frustrated with themselves and began to unravel. Santiago Warren of the Quails would be awarded a yellow card in the 73rd minute. The Flash would capitalize on the Quails yellow card and would score goal number four of the game off the foot of Justin Picou in the 74th minute. The assist would once again be credited to Staats. The Quails would get one more goal in the 88th minute thanks to Anthony Galarza.
The San Diego Flash would defeat the Temecula FC Quails by a final score of 4 to 2. The Flash have had issues beating the Quails in recent matches all ending in ties. The Flash took 10 shots on goal compared to just 6 shots by the Quails. James Stroud the Flash Goalkeeper made 3 saved compared to 4 saves by Merrill the Quails goalkeeper. The San Diego Flash advance with the victory to the National Premier Soccer League South West Final of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on March 14th at 6:30 p.m. against Deportivo Coras USA. Deportivo Coras USA upset FC Hasental 3 to 0 (San Diego Flash Rival) to advance to play the Flash. The location of this game is TBD. When we know a location we will pass it along to everyone.
