The Softer Side of Chargers Tackle DJ Fluker
DJ Fluker of the San Diego Chargers is an amazing human being on and off the field. This coming July Fluker will be given an award by the San Diego Juvenile Justice Commission at their annual awards banquet on July 9th. The San Diego Juvenile Justice Commission awards banquet is held every year to honor members of the law enforcement community who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help minors in the San Diego community that are incarcerated.

Fluker will be the lead speaker at this event and will be receiving an award for going above and beyond the call of duty to help minors in the San Diego community that are incarcerated. I am happy to share a small part of Fluker’s story in this blog.
Fluker always spends time at Juvenile Hall and likes to speak to the kids on how to better themselves. Last Christmas Fluker bought lunch for all of the minors and staffers at the San Diego County Juvenile Hall. Fluker’s message to the children today was about God and football.
Today Fluker talked to about 30 to 50 children at the San Diego County Juvenile Hall on life transformation. He preaches to the minors that they can change their actions, behaviors, and environment for the better. DJ has lived a a rough life but has made the best out of it. From growing up in a poor community in New Orleans, to having his home destroyed in the hurricane Katrina, to becoming a first round draft pick in the NFL.
God and football changed Fluker’s life for the better. “Football saved my life,” Fluker said to the minors at Juvenile Hall. Fluker’s career in football begin in high school when his coach asked him to come play. DJ was originally afraid of playing football because he did not want to get hit or hurt. DJ begin to grow to love football thanks to all of his naysayers that said he would never make it or amount to anything. This was the same approach that he took with his education. He wanted to show people wrong, he wanted to make it out of New Orleans and do something with his life. DJ had offers from every university you could think of but he chose the university he would help him succeed the most. That University was the University of Alabama.
Fluker has done everything that he possibly can to change his life and that is what he spoke on today to the minors in San Diego Juvenile Hall.
