Chargers add veteran lineman
The San Diego Chargers agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free agent offensive tackle Joe Barksdale, the team announced Tuesday.
Standing 6-5, 326 pounds, Barksdale started all 16 games at right tackle for the St. Louis Rams in 2014 to increase his career totals to 54 games played with 31 starts. He started two games for the Rams at left tackle in 2012, but his last 29 starts during the 2013-14 seasons all came at right tackle.
Originally a third-round pick of the Oakland Raiders in 2011, Barksdale was claimed by the Rams after he was waived by the Raiders in Sept. 2012. He played sparingly in 2012, but moved into the starting lineup three weeks into the 2013 season and started 13 of the Rams’ final 14 games at right tackle.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, the 27-year-old Barksdale played collegiately at Louisiana State where he was a second-team All-SEC pick as a senior in 2010.
To make room on the roster for Barksdale, the team waived tackle Bryce Quigley.
