The San Diego State University Aztecs defeated Colorado College in the Semi Finals of the Mountain West Conference Championship on Friday night for the second straight season. The Aztec game was delayed by thirty minutes as the previous game San Jose State vs. New Mexico went into overtime. This time the Aztecs were able to score two goals to avoid another penalty kick decided contest.

However, those fans in attendance had to be thinking no not another overtime game. 70 minutes into the match the game was tied thanks to the effort of the Aztec Defense which was led by goalie Melanie Vaughn. Vaughn would finish the game with a total of two saves on two opportunities. Good for her 9th shutout this season and the 26th shutout of her career.

The Aztec offense would score two goals in the final 20 minutes of the game. Zsuria Phare put the Aztecs on the board in the 70th minute. That was the end of the game for Colorado College who seemed to get gassed as the Aztecs continued to attack the net. The second and final goal for the Aztecs came in the 84th minute by Dani  DeRosa. The Aztecs held on for a 2-0 win over Colorado College. The Aztecs out shot CC 15 to 8.

San Diego State has won three straight Mountain West Conference Championships and will head into Saturday nights game against San Jose State looking for their fourth straight championship title. SDSU has also won four straight MW Regular-Season titles. SDSU and San Jose State have only met one time this season on October 18th. SDSU came away with a 2-1 victory that night over SJSU. Dating back to the 2007 season the Aztecs are 7-0 against San Jose State. The Aztecs have out scored the Spartans 12-2.

Tickets for the Mountain West Conference Championship game on Saturday night between San Diego State and San Jose State cost $10 for the general public or $5 for SDSU student’s with a valid RedID. Come out and support San Diego State as they attempt to win their fourth straight conference tournament championship and finish the season undefeated at home.
