Calling All Chargers Fans… A message from the San Diego Stadium Coalition

Dear San Diego,

Finally, after so many months of feeling powerless, we have an opportunity for you to help save the Chargers and keep Comic-Con in San Diego. In a few weeks, we will start gathering signatures for the “San Diego Citizens’ Plan” and we need 50 volunteers to help. You don’t need to commit to any specific number of hours per week or number of signatures gathered, we are just asking for any time and energy you can offer to help us get the required 75,000 signatures.

Maybe you’re going to a home game and you can talk to other Chargers fans about the issue and gather signatures that way. Perhaps you are part of a group or organization that can work together to gather signatures at another venue. Whatever the case, we need your help. We believe this plan lays a solid foundation for keeping the Chargers in San Diego by opening up their preferred Downtown site if they abandon Mission Valley. It also provides potential expanded convention center space, which will help us retain Comic-Con and attract new cultural, music and other events to San Diego. If you aren’t familiar with this Citizens’ Initiative recently drafted by Cory Briggs and fully endorsed by the San Diego Stadium Coalition, here are some important points to consider:

  • Creates a clear path to create a convention center/stadium without the use of taxpayer money
  • Requires tourists to pay their fair share for infrastructure and public services
  • Provides a critical CEQA exemption to the Mission Valley and Downtown sites
  • Helps San Diego retain the Chargers, Comic-Con and other high profile events
  • Generates millions of dollars for the general fund, which could be used to address infrastructure needs

We will be hosting a volunteer training session the week of November 16 for anyone interested. If you have an desire to be a part of this movement and contribute in a meaningful way to make our city great again, please email me at with your email address, phone number and “Signature Volunteer” in the subject line by Saturday November 14, so I can provide you with addition information. This is it, the final chapter in the Chargers stadium saga. Together we WILL get this done. However, we certainly can’t do it without your help. Join the movement today.

Thank You,

Jason M. Riggs
