The San Diego Gulls, America’s Finest Hockey Club, fell into a skid earlier into the season with a lengthy losing streak, but have sparked again and are now riding a 3 game winning streak!
The streak started on the road last Saturday, December 12th, as the Gulls sank the San Jose Barracuda, 5-0, in one of their most disciplined games of the year.

The Gulls then returned Friday night to the VVCC where the Gulls hosted teddy bear toss night against the San Jose Barracuda. This game was much closer, went to OT at 2-2, but the Gulls came out on top, 3-2 in OT with a goal from #11 Stefan Noesen. Attendance at VVCC Friday was 9,421, and over 15,000 bears were tossed onto the ice (at the wrong time)… The Gulls thought they scored at the very last second, although it was ruled time was up, the Bears came flying! Some rather generous Gulls Fans pitched in to bring a massive Costco bear, all 8 Feet, 40lbs of him. Videos/pics capture the moment which helped benefit Rady’s Children’s Hospital!

The Gulls then played rival and division leader the Ontario Reign Saturday night on the road at Citizens Business Bank Arena, and played a very tough contest. Nick Ritchie for the Gulls scored first, and on the Reign’s Teddy Bear Toss night, a lone “Intrepid Gulls fan” threw a bear onto the ice. The Gulls then gave up a goal near the end of the first period, to send the Reigns bears flying. Nick Ritchie then scored again in the second, and it looked as if the Gulls were going to hold onto the lead, but the Reign scored in the final minute on a pulled goalie man advantage. The gulls had a lousy 3rd period, only recording two shots on goal. OT was dominated by the Gulls, but Reign goalie Budaj was having none of the Gulls fire. In the shootout, Ritchie and Sgarbossa scored while Khudobin made 2 excellent saves to seal the Gulls 3-2 (SO) win.

The Gulls take the ice again at Valley View Casino Center this Saturday, December 26th against Rival and leader the Ontario Reign at 7:05
