The “NCAA Recruiting Violation” on San Diego State has been resolved. It has been found that nothing occurred at San Diego State. Myself and fans close to the program believe this “NCAA Recruiting Violation” was created to steal some major recruits away from the University (by means of the online criminal record check among other methods). Likely because of the investigation SDSU lost out on some five-star recruits. Here is the release from San Diego State that was posted on GoAztecs.com today.

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State athletic department has been notified that the NCAA has concluded its inquiry into the men’s basketball program and that the allegations made against the program were not substantiated. The notification came from the NCAA director of enforcement.

“I am grateful to Dr. Elliot Hirshman (University president), Jim Sterk (athletic director) and Andy Humes (associate athletic director for compliance), and the NCAA staff for all of their assistance during this process,” said SDSU head coach Steve Fisher.

“I am pleased that this confirms what I and our administration have known all along, that as a staff, we take great pride in representing San Diego State University and the men’s basketball program, and conducting this program with the highest integrity.”

Since the allegations became public in September, San Diego State has been proactive in working hand-in-hand with the NCAA. In its notification to the University, the NCAA stated in part, “Based on available information, the allegations were not substantiated, and it does not appear there is need for further inquiry.” It went on to say, “the enforcement staff appreciates the institution’s cooperation related to this matter.”

“These types of allegations are not uncommon in major college athletics,” Fisher said. “What is uncommon is that they ever come out in the public. I appreciate the NCAA’s efforts to thoroughly look into this matter as well as the conclusion that there was no wrongdoing.

“I am particularly grateful to those national and local media outlets that allowed this process to play out and refrained from sensationalizing unsubstantiated allegations.”

Per NCAA policy, SDSU cannot provide additional details about the inquiry.
