Peoria, AZ – It couldn’t last forever. We all knew it was a good streak in spring training and it wouldn’t last. I’m talking about how the Padres (7-13) put up 37 runs and over 50 hits in a three game stretch to start the week. It was a different story on Wednesday afternoon at Camelback Ranch as the White Sox (12-8) beat San Diego 6-1 behind six strong innings from veteran John Danks.
The Padres bats had no answer for Danks as he threw six shutout innings while striking out six and allowing seven hits. Danks allowed one walk to Melvin Upton Jr.
RF Avasail Garcia had two hits and two RBI, including a home run off Padres starter Drew Pomeranz.
Pomeranz is trying to win one of the final spots in the rotation and was making his first start of this Cactus League season. He threw four innings, allowing one hit and one run and only walked one batter and struck out four.
Adam Rosales and Austin Hedges were the only Padres to get multiple hits, gathering two apiece.
Fernando Rodney struggled as he came in to get some work in the seventh. Rodney allowed two runs in the seventh, including three hits, a wild pitch, and a balk.
Today:
Colin Rea looks to continue a strong spring and move closer to winning one of the final two spots in the rotation as he takes the mound against the division rival D-Backs (18-4) at 1:10pm at the Peoria Sports Complex. Rea has a 3.86 ERA over four starts so far this spring.
The Diamondbacks will contest with LHP Anthony Banda, as newly signed ace Zack Creinke is scheduled to appear in a minor-league game today.
There is no TV or radio coverage for today’s game. However, Padres.com is hosting an exclusive webcast of the game.
