San Diego Chargers Mini Camp 6.14.16 (Recap)

Chargers Training Camp June 14th 2016. Chargers Park. Mandatory Photo Credit: San Diego Sports Domination

San Diego Sports Domination was invited by the San Diego Chargers to watch minicamp. We brought our new cameraman and owner of Ware Studios along to shoot the practice. The photo gallery at the bottom of the article contains 20 photos for your viewing pleasure. Here are few notes from the Chargers minicamp on June 14th 2016.

  • DL Joey Bosa was a no-show.
  • Antonio Gates made some nice catches.
  • Phillip Rivers was accurate in drills and looks to be in midseason form.
  • Melvin Gordon took handoffs and caught passes. It is clear that he is still not 100% but looks good in non contact drills.
  • P Drew Kaser has one hell of a boot. He can kick for distance and has amazing hang time on his kicks. He was crushing punts during practice.

The following players have returned to practice since we last watched OTA’s on May 31st:  Chris Watt, Trevor Robinson, Antonio Gates, Jamaal Jones, Terrell Chestnut, Branden Oliver and Nick Dzubnar. Those who did not practice today are Derek Watt, Steve Williams, and Shaq Petteway.

After practice King Dunlap, Keenan Allen, Jason Varrett, Melvin Gorden, Danny Woodhead and Denzel Perryman signed autographs for the Chargers season ticket holders.

Top Press Conference Quotes

Mike McCoy was asked about which team group has surprised him the most so far this offseason.

“Overall… the way that the defense has gone after the football, the number of balls that they have gotten their hands on, interceptions, the energy and excitement that the team is playing with right now.”

Mike McCoy was asked about Rookie defensive end Joey Bosa who is skipping the Chargers three-day mandatory minicamp because of a dispute in contract negotiations.

“We’re all disappointed he’s not here, but our number one focus is the players who are here. Time will work that out.”
