San Diego Athletes have murdering the Rio Olympics. Counting athletes born in San Diego County and those who have trained at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center leading up to RIO. We have had 45 athletes compete in RIO. The main teams that train at the CVOTC are RUGBY (Men’s & Women’s), BMX (Men’s & Women’s) and Archery (Men’s & Women’s Teams). We also have some of Americas best Track & Field athletes.

If the Rio Olympics ended today the 45 San Diego linked athletes would be returning home with 15 olympic medals. Those 15 medals would place them in a tie for 14th with the host country Brazil and New Zealand. The 15 medals breakdown into 7 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze. San Diego will also be bringing home 1 world record and 1 olympic record. The WR belongs to Jennifer Valente and Sarah Hammer. Both are members of the USA Cycling Pursuit Team setting the record at 4:12.282.The OR belongs to Ryan Crouser who won gold in the men’s shot put final. He set a new OR of 22.52.

San Diego has a chance to bring home three more medals with Cyrus Hostetler (Men’s Javelin), Sean Furey (Men’s Javelin) and Meb Keflezighi (Marathon). Cyrus and Sean will be competing today at 4:55pm PT. Meb will help close out Rio 2016 on Sunday the 21st.
