Fans can expect another WHITE HOT SUNDAY home opener

CHARGERS RELEASE

The San Diego Chargers are urging fans to join the players and wear white to make it a “White Hot Sunday” on Sunday, Sept. 18 against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Qualcomm Stadium.  The game kicks off at 1:25 pm PT.  The team will be wearing white pants with white jerseys at the home opener for the fourth year in a row.

Every Chargers season ticket member received a free white “Charge On” T-shirt with each season seat.  In addition, new “White Hot Sunday” T-shirts are available for purchase at the Chargers Team Store at Qualcomm Stadium for just $19.

The Chargers believe this move is an opportunity for the fans in the stands to make another tangible impact on the outcome of the game.

“This is a tradition that we started a few years ago,” said Chargers President – Business Operations A.G. Spanos.  “It’s been great to see the fan response, uniting with our players on the field. Anything we can do to help foster a home field advantage is incredibly important.  We hear that from our players often, and this is a concept that our fans have embraced.  It’s a yearly tradition we all enjoy.”

Quarterback and offensive captain Philip Rivers said: “I think the guys, as players, enjoy wearing white because it is a change up for us and seeing the stadium all white on our first home game is exciting. Coming off a tough one last week, we are going to need it to be a great atmosphere and we are going to come out and get the win.”

“For us as players, seeing the fans wear all white shows how the community backs us on and off the field,” said defensive captain Brandon Mebane.

The Chargers have won three of their four previous “White Hot Sunday” home openers, including last season’s 33-28 win over the Detroit Lions.

All fans in attendance Sunday will receive a White Hot Sunday Roller Banner, compliments of Bud Light (see attached).

Tickets to Sunday’s game as well as all games are available at Chargers.com.  And a special offer just for Sunday’s game: All ticket purchases between now and Friday midnight on Ticketmaster.com will be charged “no fees”.  (Does not apply to previously purchased tickets or tickets purchased on NFL Ticket Exchange.)

Tickets are also available at the Chargers Ticket Office at Gate C at Qualcomm Stadium Monday thru Friday, 8-5 pm, and Saturday, 10-4 pm.

About the San Diego Chargers

The San Diego Chargers originated as the Los Angeles Chargers of the American Football League in 1960.  The team relocated to San Diego in 1961 and captured the American Football League championship in 1963.  It finished first in five of the 10 AFL seasons.  Since joining the National Football League when the two leagues merged in 1970, the Chargers have won 11 AFC West division titles, including five titles in the last 12 seasons (2004-15).  Overall, the team has played in 28 playoff games.  The Chargers were purchased by construction leader and real estate developer Alex G. Spanos in 1984 and has been under the guidance of Spanos’ eldest son Dean, the team’s current Chairman of the Board, since 1994.  That same season the team won the AFC Championship and played in Super Bowl XXIX.  All Chargers games are annually the highest-rated television programming in San Diego.  The Chargers play their home games at Qualcomm Stadium and the Spanos family, nationally renowned as one of San Diego’s and the NFL’s most philanthropic families, has invested millions of dollars in an effort to secure a new Super Bowl-quality, multi-use venue for San Diego.
