The San Diego Sockers quest for 15 starts on Saturday night against the Turlock Express. Doors open at 6pm with kickoff scheduled for 7:05pm at the Valley View Casino Center. The giveaway for the game is Sockers Keychains for first 500 fans! The Sockers will also be holding a costume contest with a prize for the best costume.

This is a different soccer team than fans have seen in past seasons. This team is very young and is very fast. Sockers head coach Phil Salvagio said it best during the press conference, “We are going to play hard, fast and score some goals.” The goal for this team is to win a national championship. They don’t care about making the playoffs or making the finals… they care about winning a championship. Some changes have been made to bring in more speed. The Sockers have acquired Max Touloute (Kansas City), Cesar Cerda (Las Vegas) and Brandon Escoto (Atletico Baja). Leaving the Sockers are Nick Perera, Jonaton Santos, and Evan McNeley.

The Sockers are looking to become relevant once again in the MASL. To return to the glory days of winning championships. Just three years ago the Sockers had an extraordinary run of 48 straight wins. Those four seasons capped off by a national title. The goal is to win a championship anything less than that will be considered a loss for this team. Kraig Chiles had this to say about the team’s chemistry, “This year we are going to see a big change. We are all extremely happy to play for each other, to play together, to be united as one team and to win the championship.” Kraig comes into the season as one of the most dominant scorers in the modern era of the MASL and comes into this season as the San Diego Sockers all-time leader in goals scored.
