San Diego Sockers Speed Past Turlock Express 12-1
The San Diego Sockers opened the 2016/17 season against the Turlock Express in front of a home crowd of 3,025. The Sockers improved on two things over the course of the off-season in getting younger and faster. Man, the San Diego Sockers are fast. One could not help but notice the fastest Sockers player on the bench in Brian Farber. Farber coming off injury expects to be back in a few weeks,”I will be back in a couple of weeks. It’s a matter of not overdoing it as my body isn’t used to going at a fast pace yet.” The Sockers did not miss any of Farber’s speed as they flew all over the field en route to a 12-1 victory.
Kraig Chiles, the San Diego Sockets Captain kicked off the scoring for Sockers 2016 season with a laser shot four minutes into the game assisted by Victor Quiroz to give San Diego their first lead of the season. Four minutes later Chiles would strike again for his second goal of the game and Quiroz picking up his second assist of the game.Raymundo Reza scored his first goal of the season in the 7th minute of the game and almost added a second with a shot from the red line but was denied on a diving save the Turlock Express goalkeeper Edgar Martinez. The Sockers would hold a 3-0 going into the first intermission
Eduardo Velez would get the scoring started for the Sockers just sixteen seconds into the second period assisted by the San Diego captain Kraig Chiles. Three minutes later Velez added his second goal of the evening unassisted. Chiles scored the Sockers first hat trick of the season in the 7th minute of the second quarter thanks to a beautiful pass by Matt Clare. The Sockers would tack on two goals in the 13th minute of the game thanks to Max Touloute (1) and Anthony Medina (1). Heading into halftime the San Diego Sockers held a commanding lead of 9-0. The Sockers had a total of 20 shots on goal to the Expresses 12.
The Express first points of 2016 came at the start of the third period courtesy of Jose Barajas in the second minute. Turlock would go on to dominate the first five minutes of the third period with five shots on goal. The next five minutes would be a stalemate for the Sockers and Express until Touloute nailed his second goal of the night in the 11th minute becoming the third Sockers player to reach two goals on the night. Touloute nailed the ball through the open legs of Martinez the Express goalkeeper. The assists on the goal Sockers goalkeeper Chris Toth. The score at the end of the third period San Diego Sockers 10 and Turlock Express 1. The only thing the Express won in the third period was shots on goal 6-4 over the Sockers.
To open the fourth and final quarter the Turlock Express almost scored their second goal of the game on a beautiful bicycle kick but nailed the kick off the glass. The Sockers picked up where they left off in the third period of the game with their 11th goal of the evening in the 9th minute courtesy of Luan Oliveira assisted by Ze Roberto. The 12th goal of the night coming in the 11th minute by Anthony Medina (2) his second of the match and the fourth Sockers player to score two goals. The final seconds clicked off the board with a final score of 12-1 in favor of the Sockers.
The San Diego Sockers (1-0) return home on Saturday, November 5th to take on the Dallas Sidekicks (1-0). The game is set to kick off at 7:05 PM Pacific time.
