The excitement about the possibility of an MLS team in San Diego has got soccer fans beyond hyped. But what about San Diego’s’ National Premier Soccer League Team? The NPSL is the fourth division of the soccer pyramid in America and the highest amateur League on the pyramid alongside the PDL. Currently San Diego’s highest level of professional soccer along side the PDL. Albion SC Pros have been on fire since the creation of the team last season. They finished 2016 with an amazing record of 16 (wins), 1 (loss), and 4 (ties). The lone loss coming in the National Quarterfinals against Sonoma County Sol FC (National Championship Runner-Up) by a score of 1-0.

The 2017 PROS are off to another fast start winning the 1st non-conference game of the season 3-2 against the East Bay FC Stompers of the West Region – Golden Gate Conference of the NPSL. A good win early win for the PROS against a 2016 NPSL Playoff team. Albion SC PROS next opponent is Phoenix Rising FC of the United Soccer League (USL). The USL being the 2nd division of Soccer in America. If you enjoy soccer this is going to be one heck of a game to watch as the PROS look to move to 2-0 all-time against USL opponents.

In 2016, the PROS defeated the LA Galaxy II (Galaxy Reserve Team) 2 to 0 at the StubHub Center in Carson. The victory coming at the hands of PROS goalkeeper Jean Antoine providing a stellar performance to keep “Los Dos” scoreless. The goals courtesy of Kuba Waligorsky and Tre Hayes. Both players returning to the pros for the 2017 season. The LA Galaxy II would finish 5th in the Western Conference of 16 teams and would make it into the USL Playoffs before losing in the Conference Quarterfinals.

In 2017, the PROS will attempt to defend home turf against the aforementioned Phoenix Rising FC. I expect the PROS to DOMINATE Phoenix Rising FC. Looking at the 2016 USL conference standings Phoenix finished the year in 13th place and did not qualify for the USL playoffs. They are taking on a well-improved team in the PROS returning almost all players from the 2016 campaign and a few new faces. However, Albion SC PROS will continue to be without their top scoring player in franchise history in Matt Clare. Clare is currently ending the 2017 MASL season with the San Diego Sockers who are heading into the MASL playoffs.

The game with Phoenix Rising FC will kick off at 7:30 PM at Mission Bay High School. We hope to see you at the game. Come cheer on some amazing soccer as Albion SC Pros looks to make a statement. Albion SC Pros is looking to move in the future either the NASL or USL. The PROS are proving with victories against USL teams that they can, in fact, compete with the big kids.  Head on over to AlbionSCPros.com to purchase tickets to this weekend’s match or just click on the hyperlink.
