MEDIA RELEASE:

The yearly hockey game featuring the San Diego Law Enforcement Spartans and Patriots Hockey will take place at the San Diego Ice Arena on Saturday October 6th. The doors will open at 6:00pm and puck drop 6:30pm.

The game known as “The Jeremy Henwood Classic” is played in honor of Jeremy Henwood a Marine, turned Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty on August 7th 2011. The cost of entry to the event is $10. The proceeds from the event are split evenly between charities, the Widows and Orphans fund for the Spartans and All Star Vets for the Patriots. Guests will be entertained with music from a live band, food trucks, venders and a beer garden.

Before every game a ceremonial puck drop is held. The Spartans select one person to represent the team as do the Patriots. The 2017 horary for the Patriots was Mike Lans. Lans served in the United States Army for 6 years before being medically discharged. Lans survived three IED attacks during his deployments in Iraq. Lans is a goalkeeper for the Patriots and was named the 2017 Patriot of the Year. The Spartans selected Chula Vista Police Officer David Sachs. Sachs was injured in the line of duty on September 19th, 2017, during a disturbance call.

This years ceremonial puck drop will feature Purple Heart Recipient Marcus D. Chischilly. Marcus deployed four times during his enlistment. On Marcus’ fourth tour,
he stepped on a 25lb pressure plated Improvised Explosive Device (IED)sustaining nerve damage in his right hand and requiring his leg to be amputated above the knee. It took about two years for Marcus to recover from the blast but he regained strength through physical therapy, adaptive sports and a positive attitude.

Oct 9 th 2010 Marcus was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. The awards he has earned are the National Defense Service Medal,
Iraqi Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Nato Medal-ISAF Afghanistan, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon and Combat Action Ribbon Gold Star.
