The Sockers made some noise during the off-season trading away some fan favorites for some well needed fire power. The Sockers moves are going to make them a more powerful offensive scoring team… which is very hard to believe considering they scored an average of seven (7) goals per game last season.

  • Sockers Traded one of the best Goalkeepers in the MASL in Chris Toth and forward Andy Lorei for Leonardo De Oliveira and defender Juan Gonzalez. Oliveira and Gonzalez combined for 20 goals and 21 assists last year for Ontario.

  • San Diego Sockers signed free agent midfielder Travis Pittman to a one-year contract.

  • San Diego Sockers signed free agent forward Christian Segura. Segura compiled 22 goals and nine assists with Sonora this past season.

  • San Diego Sockers signed free agent defender Manuel Rojo. Rojo comes to San Diego after playing two quality seasons with El Paso (2017-18) and Atletico Baja (2016-17).

  • San Diego Sockers signed free agent midfielder Christian Gutierrez. Gutierrez comes to San Diego after two highly-productive seasons with El Paso (2017-18) and Atletico Baja (2016-17), where he tallied 146 points in only 62 career games. He was named to the 2017-18 All-MASL Third Team.

  • San Diego Sockers signed free agent forward Taylor Bond. The four-year MASL veteran has tallied 88 goals, 27 assists for 115 points in 71 career games with Chicago, Cedar Rapids, and Tacoma.

  • San Diego Sockers acquired defender as part of a three-team trade with the Kansas City Comets and Tacoma Stars. As part of the trade, the Tacoma Stars receive former Sockers forward Matt Clare and former Comets midfielder Milan Ivanovic. The Comets will receive Alain Matingou, Robert Palmer and Ramone Palmer. He totaled 40 games in two seasons for Kansas City, tallying 22 goals and 13 assists along the way. He led the team in blocks in 2017-2018 with 23.

May fans are going to miss watching Chris Toth in net this season. Toth had been with the Sockers since starting his career in the MASL. In 89 career games with San Diego in the PASL and MASL, Toth compiled a 69-17 record with a .748 save percentage.  According to the Sockers it was a mutual decision to go in a different direction.

The Sockers also made some moves to resign some current players.

  • San Diego Sockers re-signed Eddie Velez to a multi-year contract.

  • San Diego Sockers re-signed Cesar Cerda to a multi-year contract.

  •  San Diego Sockers re-signed talented midfielder Luis “Pee Wee” Ortega to a multi-year contract.

The San Diego Sockers begin the 2018/19 season this coming Sunday at the Pechanga Arena San Diego formerly known as the San Diego Sports Arena. The game will kick off at 5:05PM.  We hope you all will join us in our coverage of the San Diego Sockers this season.
