The San Diego Sockers found them selves playing a familiar face again as the faced former teammate Chris Toth and theOntario Fury for the 3rd time this season San Diego won the previous 2 meetings, both low scoring affairs. The last time these 2 teams played, the Sockers did not score until the 4th quarter and the halftime score was 0-0. Sockers overcame a 0-2 fourth quarter deficit for a 3-2 overtime win. Would we see another low scoring late action game, let’s find out.
Ontario got the scoring started when Adrien Perez scored with 3:16 left in the 1st and the quarter ended with the Sockers trailing 0-1. Perez doubled the Fury lead with his 2nd goal of the match for a 0-2 Sockers deficit. The fury had a great shot at scoring but Sockers goalie Boris Pardo interrupted the shot but tripped a Fury defender in the process. Bardo received a blue card and the Fury were awarded a penalty kick. Maocon de Abreu converted the penalty kick. San Diego had some really good scoring chance in the half and still the Sockers would go into Halftime down 0-3.
San Diego was finally able to get themselves on the board when Felipe Gonzales found the back of the net. Felipe’s Goal was soon followed by a Kraig Chiles goal to narrow Ontario’s lead to 2-3 with 11:44 left in the 3rd. Robert Tornel put the Fury back to 2 as he found net.
But the Sockers responded quickly with as Felipe Gonzalez scored his 2nd goal of the match just 9 seconds after Tornel’s goal. The Captain Kraig Chiles tied the game 34 seconds later with his 2nd goal of the match. San Diego gained its first lead of the game on the Sockers 5th goal of the quarter, this one by Luis Ortega. Ontario tied the game at 5 on a goal by Francisco Cordeiro to cap off a wild 3rd quarter that saw eight combined goals from both teams.
After coming all the way back from a 0-3 deficit, the Sockers needed to regain the lead but Chris Toth was not making it easy and the game stayed 5-5 for most of the fourth quarter. The tie was finally broken when Sockers captain Kraig Chiles scored his third goal of the night to put the Sockers up 6-5 with just over 3 minutes left.
Ontario brought Chris Toth closer as an attacker with a minute left to give the Fury a last chance at tying the game. Ontario came close once but were unable to tie the game as San Diego won 6-5 to improve to 7-1 on the season.
The win was the Sockers 3rd win vs Ontario on the year. After the game there was some heated tension which you could seeing brewing on the field towards the end of game.
After the conclusion of the game two Ontario players had to be escorted out by security to prevent any further conflict between the rival teams.
