FLEET SAIL AWAY WITH VICTORY
SDCCU STADIUM — In the maiden voyage off San Diego waters, the San Diego Fleet doubled up the Atlanta Legends by a 24-12 score before 20,019 at SDCCU Stadium on a rainy, cold evening.
Ja’Quan Gardner ran 15 times for 104 yards a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns for the Fleet (1-1). Donny Hageman went 4-for-4 on field goals on the same field that he played college ball on.
The Fleet dominated first downs getting 22 of them in the contest (compared to Atlanta’s 14). Which allowed them to run 16 more plays and out gained the Legends by a 313-222 margin.
Atlanta (0-2) took the early lead with a touchdown (missed on the conversion) and a 29-yard field goal for a 9-0 advantage after one quarter.
The second and third quarters were the Hageman show. In the second quarter, the #AztecForLife kicker booted home a 46- and 43-yard field goals. Then in the third quarter, he tied it up with a short 26-yard chip shot.

The Legends kicked a field goal to take a 12-9 lead to begin the final quarter.
San Diego would begin their drive at their own 25-yard line. After stalling the first few plays, the offense finally woke up after its seven-quarter slumber.
A great sliding catch by WR Brian Brown at the Atlanta eight set up some history. Gardner took the ball off the left end and into the end zone for the first touchdown in team history.
For good measure, on the next drive, Gardner scored from seven-yards out to effectively seal the game, but it wasn’t until Hageman split the uprights for the fourth time that everyone could sigh and begin the celebration.
Next week, the San Antonio Commanders will come to SDCCU Stadium for another 5:00 P.M. first snap. For those that can’t make it to the Stadium, the game will be on the NFL Network.
