TURLOCK, DALLAS IT DOES NOT MATTER WHO THE SOCKERS FACE, THEY JUST WIN

SAN DIEGO – The way the Sockers are playing, it really doesn’t matter who the opposition is.  Case in point, take the game on March 15, 2019 when they beat the Dallas Sidekicks 8-3 before an announced crowd of 4,001 on Ron Newman Field at Pechanga Arena San Diego.

When the Major Arena Soccer League schedule came out last Summer, the game on March 15, 2019 was listed as Turlock at San Diego (17-1).  However, on Feb. 11 the league changed match 157 on the season’s master schedule.  The league dictated that the Sidekicks (8-11) (who were supposed to play El Paso) would travel to San Diego (with Turlock traveling to West Texas to take on El Paso).

Brian Farber got the Sockers on the board first after a nifty pass by the Captain Kraig Chiles just 48 seconds into the contest.  Two minutes later, Leonardo De Oliveria would score his first of the night.  Less than 30 seconds later, Landon Donovan scored his fourth goal.  Chiles would initiate a corner kick from the keepers right and fed it to Donovan who had a wide-open net to shoot at.

Dallas, would close to within a 3-1 mark with just under two minutes left in the opening quarter.  De Oliveria scored his second goal of the game.  That goal saw the forward standing on the right of the keeper.  Cesar Cerda shot the ball from near the red line and it ricocheted off the boards to Leo.  He dribbled it towards the corner and ended up scoring on the wide side of the goal on a beautiful goal to give San Diego a 4-1 lead after 15 minutes.

The second quarter was much quitter as the only goal was from the foot of the Captain to give the Blue and Gold a 5-1 lead going to halftime.

As far as the second half of this game, the Sockers added three more goals in the third.  Two of them came from Juan Gonzalez who now has four on the season.  The other came from the Captain for his 23rd tally of the campaign.

In the fourth, Dallas scored a pair of goals both by VcMor Eligwe who, with his hat trick tonight, has 26 on the season.

Other than the goals, the only interesting things that happened in a rather lackluster half was both Dallas’ Head Coach Simon Bozas (third quarter) and Carlos Videla (fourth quarter) received yellow cards for dissent.

The Sockers will now head out on a four-game road trip.  The stops will include Turlock (Mar. 22), Dallas (Mar. 24), Tacoma (Mar. 31) and Ontario (April 4).  On Sunday, April 7 the team will be back for Alumni Night.  At halftime, it was announced that the Sockers will be raising another jersey to the rafters of Pechanga Arena San Diego at their next home game.  That will be the seventh banner of a player or coach to forever be hanging and it will be the number 3 of Paul Wright.

As for the original opponents, Turlock defeated El Paso 8-7 in a shootout.
