STRIKE FORCE ADD FORMER ALL-IFL RECEIVER
Wade Ranked 2nd in IFL in All-Purpose Yards in 2019
SAN DIEGO, California (October 1, 2019) – The Strike Force have acquired Marquel Wade from the Cedar Rapids River Kings in exchange for the rights of quarterback Derrick Bernard and signed the former All-IFL receiver to their 2020 Indoor Football League roster.
Wade (5-11, 170, Arkansas) saw action in 12 games last season in Cedar Rapids and recorded 54 receptions for 544 yards and eight touchdowns. He also contributed on special teams, totaling 1,020 kick return yards (2nd in the IFL) and two touchdowns on 57 attempts.
Marquel’s 1,567 all-purpose yards ranked second in the IFL last season behind San Diego receiver Marques Rodgers (2,229 yards), who was named the 2019 IFL Special Teams Player of the Year.
“Marquel is a special talent with the ability to be a every down target, as well as a big play threat,” said Strike Force General Manager Ryan Eucker. “We’re excited to add a second proven receiver to our roster in the first day of the 2020 IFL free agency period.”
In 2018 in Cedar Rapids, Wade led the IFL in receptions (64) and average receiving yards per game (65.9). He was second in total yards (791) and fourth in both yards per catch (12.4) and touchdowns (16). Marquel earned 1st Team All-IFL honors at the conclusion of the season.
Wade spent time with the Nebraska Danger in 2016 where he recorded 309 receiving yards and four touchdowns, helping them earn a Wild Card win and a Conference Championship appearance. He spent the 2017 season with the Jacksonville Sharks of the National Arena League.
Prior to his professional career, Wade attended the University of Arkansas where he played one season with the Razorbacks in 2011. As a freshman, he played in ten games where he caught eight receptions for 62 yards. Wade also excelled on special teams, returning 12 punts for 99 yards and 14 kicks for 358 yards and one touchdown. That year, he made the All-SEC Freshman team on special teams.
