STRIKE FORCE ADD SEWELL AS OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR
IFL Hall of Fame Quarterback joins San Diego Coaching Staff
SAN DIEGO, California (October 4, 2019) – The Strike Force have added Jameel Sewell their coaching staff in prep for the 2020 Indoor Football League season.
Sewell joins the Strike Force as Offensive Coordinator for his third season as a coach in the IFL. Last season in Nebraska (2019), the Danger offense finished the season with the third-ranked rushing attack (1,477 yards) while converting on 79% of their trips to the red zone (ranked second). Jameel also helped coach quarterback Tommy Armstrong to IFL Rookie of the Year honors. Armstrong finished the season with 1,799 passing yards and 37 touchdowns in the air while he added a league-best 720 yards on the ground and 26 visits to the end zone. In 2018, he served as the Danger’s quarterback coach.
“He has a very cerebral football mind and performed at a very high level in the IFL,” said Strike Force General Manager Ryan Eucker. “Beyond his approach to the game, it’s also his character and leadership abilities we look forward to adding to our organization as he works alongside our staff to develop a great program here in San Diego.”
Jameel played a total of six seasons in the IFL (2011-2017) and was a member of the Hall of Fame Class of 2018. After spending his first season in Green Bay, Sewell joined Nebraska in 2012 and went on to lead the team to three consecutive United Bowl championship appearances (2013-15). He earned IFL MVP honors in 2013 after he led the league in passing yards (2,531) and rushing yards (654). He repeated as MVP in 2015 and was named First Team All-IFL twice. He ranks third all-time in IFL history in rushing touchdowns (88), fifth in rushing yards (2,157) and sixth in passing touchdowns (151).
Sewell played his collegiate career at the University of Virginia. Outside of football, he works in a group home for juvenile delinquents and mentally challenged adults.
