San Diego adds defensive back for 2020 IFL season

SAN DIEGO, California (December 4, 2019) – The Strike Force have signed defensive back Malik Boynton to their 2020 Indoor Football League roster.

Boynton (6-0, 200), Austin Peay State University) joins San Diego for his first season as a member of the IFL. Prior to joining the Strike Force, Malik was a member of the 2019 Canadian Football League (CFL) Grey Cup Champions the Winnipeg Bombers. Before the CFL, he was a member of the Memphis Express of the Alliance of American Football (AAF) prior to their shut down in spring of 2019.

“Malik is a great athlete that we expect to contribute not only as a defensive back also on the offensive side of the football,” said Strike Force General Manager Ryan Eucker. “He’s gained some great football experience in the past year that when added to his life outside of football, creates the drive and focus we want to see in players seeking to make an impact and get to the next level.”

Prior to his indoor football career, Boynton played his collegiate career with the Austin Peay University Governors. The Governors were 1-45 over 4 seasons heading into Boynton’s senior season. Suffering what should have been a career ending injury during game seven of the 2016 season, Boynton was named team captain to start the 2017 Season. Malik lead Austin Peay to their first winning season in over four years, contributing 51 tackles to their 8-4 2017 season record. Boynton graduated from Austin Peay with 43 games played, 151 tackles (101 solo) landing him and invitation to the Pittsburgh Steelers minicamp in May 2018.

Boynton grew up in Detroit, Michigan where he played football for Melvindale High School. During his senior season he was named All-State player.
