The San Diego Padres are building off the 2020 season which ended in the NLDS (3 game sweep to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The first playoff run for the Padres in 14 years! Can the Padres make a serious run towards a world series run?

We took a look at the World Series odds at SportsBettingDime and they have the Padres listed at +783. Giving the Padres the third highest chance at winning the world series behind the defending champion Dodgers (+333) and the Padres nemesis from the 1998 World Series the New York Yankees

Let’s touch base on the Padres off season acquisitions that might help bring San Diego it’s first World Series Championship in two tries (1984 & 1998). The Padres are 1-8 all time in World Series games.

Fernando Tatis Jr resigned to the biggest deal in Padres history (14 years longest contract in MlB history which is worth a whopping $340 Million). A deal that could potentially make him only the third Padres player (Tim Flannery 1979-1989 & Tony Gwynn 1982-2001) in team history to spend his MLB career on one team.

Blake Snell traded from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for Luis Patino, Cole Wilcox, Blake Hunt and Francisco Mejia. Can you say BLOCKBUSTER TRADE?!?!?!? The Padres have a true ACE.

Ace Yu Darvish and catcher Victor Caratini traded from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for Zach Davies and four other players Reginald Preciado, Yeison Santana, Owen Caissie and Ismael Mena. Pitching has been something the Padres have needed and now they have a very strong starting lineup.

Ha-Seong Kim one of the most electric players from the KBO (Korea Baseball Organization). He signed a four-year contract worth $28 million and includes a mutual option for the 2025 season. Our own David Droegemeier got to sit down with Jeeho Yoo a Korean sports journalist who covers the KBO for Yonhap News Agencey and is a contributor to KBOonESPN.

Hometown talent Joe Musgrove (El Cajon) was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates in part of a three team trade. The Padres sending Joey Lucchesi to the New York Mets… the Mets sending Endy Rodriguez to the Pirates and the Padres sending David Bednar, Omar Cruz, Hudson head and Drake Fellows. The Padres now have a solid front rotation of Dinelson Lamet, Blake Snell, Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove.

Other moves for the Padres include signing pitchers Keone Kela and Mark Melancon to one year deals. This boosts an already deep Padres bullpen. Jurickson Profar was also re-signed to a mulit year deal after an impressive 2020 season.
